7.2 Miles on the Local Trails

Today I ran my favorite local loop... Folly Lick Trail to Sugarland Run Trail to the W&OD Trail.  The trail goes through the woods and has a handful of stream crossings.  There are a lot of bends and little up-and-down hills along the way.  The start of the loop is at the high point and the lowest part is near the end of mile 3.  Then it's mostly uphill on the back 4 miles.

Today the trail was blocked by a doe and her fawn.  They were running the trail about 50 yards ahead of me (at first I thought it was a jogger and his dog... I need to get my eyes checked!).  After a short time of me running a distance behind them the fawn gave up running and stopped to eat some grass.  The mom stopped too and so did I.  I tried to make some noise to scare them off the trail, but they wouldn't budge.  So I waited about a minute until the baby finally had enough and moved off the trail.  As I passed them they just watched me run by without any fear.  The baby was awfully cute.

(I stopped my Garmin for all of this, so it doesn't show in the charts).

Last night I didn't eat well.  Luckily I was able to do the run with what I did eat... a ClifBar breakfast and a peanut butter bagel last night for dinner (along with cereal for dessert and some of Handan's chocolate mosaic cake).

  1. WOW! You are so lucky to have a beautiful place to run! I am jealous. I love to see wild life. There is one trail I can run but it is really muddy right now. I am forced on country roads. Thanks for sharing. :)
